In 1938 Alcorso migrated to Australia. In 1939 he established Silk and Textile Printers Ltd. Alcorso engaged thirty-three artists to contribute their visions to textiles, resulting in the milestone Modernage Exhibition of 1947.

Career Highlights


Studied University of Rome (Economics) and subsequently at the London School of Economics. Attended Harvard School of Business Administration.

In 1939 Alcorso, brother Orlando and Paul Sonnino established Silk and Textile Printers Ltd in Sydney, to meet the need for Australian production of dress fabric.

Alcorso manufactured a range of fabrics designed by thirty-three Australian artists. The Modernage range of fabrics was exhibited in 1947 at the Windsor Hotel, Melbourne, under the title: A New Approach to Textile Designing: By a Group of Australian Artists. The exhibition included the work of William Dobell, Paul Haefliger and Margo Lewers.

Alcorso served as Founding Chairman of the Australian Opera and Director of the Australian Ballet.
