Born: Australia (Sydney, New South Wales)

Fashion Designer

Pye studied art and to become a chef at East Sydney Technical College in the early to mid 1970s. During the mid 70s she tried cooking, but spent more time making clothes for friends.

In 1974 Pye became interested in Japanese culture and made kimonos silk screened with erotic prints. Pye became increasingly interested in the sculptural and conceptual possibilities of clothing; she had her first sewing machine at age eight and was adept at construction.

In 1977 Pye opened a 'concept clothing' shop, Duzzn't Madder, in Balmain, Sydney. She also exhibited her work in a variety of places and staged her own fashion parade, Reflections of Narcissism, at the Paris Theatre, Sydney.

In 1978 she closed the shop and began working with multi media events, including Laser Wars, with Ellis D Fogg at the Kirk Gallery. Pye sold her clothes at Paddington Market, Sydney and through the boutique Little Pink. In 1979 she formed the Katie Pye Studio with George Nezovic and continued to work on stage images and events.
